Shigeru Ban: Cardboard Cathedral
The Cardboard Cathedral is a landmark in the reconstruction of Christchurch after the 2010-11 earthquakes. Andrew was invited to prepare the book by Shigeru Ban, a Pritzker Prize-winning architect, shortly after he received the commission. As the only building in NZ designed by the winner of a Pritzker, the Cardboard Cathedral is arguably the country’s most internationally significant building. This book critically presents the project from conception to completion, placing it in the context of Ban’s internationally renowned disaster relief work, his pioneering work with cardboard tube structures, and of Christchurch’s post-quake reconstruction efforts.
